Dental Assistant II

JOB TITLE: Dental Assistant II

DEPARTMENT: Dental Health Services

FLSA:  Full-Time, Non-Exempt

DURATION:  Open Until 07/17/2019

SALARY RANGE:  $14.00 - $20.00 per hour

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.  Position will participate in QI activities as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform mouth mirror inspection of the oral cavity

  • Chart existing restorations or conditions

  • Phone in prescriptions at the direction of the dentist

  • Receive and prepare patients for treatment, including seating, positioning chair, and placing napkin

  • Complete laboratory authorization forms

  • Place and remove retraction cord

  • Perform routine maintenance of dental equipment

  • Monitor and respond to postsurgical bleeding

  • Perform coronal polishing procedures

  • Communicate effectively with all patients.

  • Transfer dental instruments 

  • Place amalgam for condensation by the dentist

  • Remove sutures

  • Dry canals

  • Tie in arch wires

  • Demonstrate knowledge of ethics/jurisprudence/patient confidentiality

  • Identify features of rotary instruments

  • Apply topical fluoride

  • Select and manipulate gypsums and waxes

  • Place stainless steel crown

  • Mix dental materials

  • Expose radiographs

  • Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality

  • Provide patient preventive education and oral hygiene instruction

  • Perform sterilization and disinfection procedures

  • Provide pre- and post-operative instructions

  • Place and remove dental dam

  • Pour, trim, and evaluate the quality of diagnostic casts

  • Using the concepts of fourhanded dentistry, assist with basic restorative procedures.

  • Identify intraoral anatomy

  • Demonstrate understanding of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard

  • Remove post-extraction dressings

  • Place liners and bases

  • Place periodontal dressings

  • Demonstrate understanding of the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard

  • Take and record vital signs
